At Kansas City Hospice, patient and family satisfaction is our absolute priority. As the top nonprofit hospice provider in the Kansas City area, this is our laser focus: quality patient care.

We hear regularly from families about the care their loved ones received from us, and it lifts our spirits that most often, this feedback is overwhelmingly positive. While many of these comments come to us in cards or letters to KCH caregivers themselves, or as a Halo Award recognition for an exceptional caregiver or team - you can also find them in the form of a Google review or Testimonial!

But don’t take our word for it. As a certified Medicare provider, we participate in the Hospice Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) Family Satisfaction Survey. This survey asks families to rate our care across specific categories designed to assess the experiences of patients and their families with hospice care. These categories include:

• Overall rating of care
• Communication with family
• Timeliness of help when needed
• Effectiveness of pain and symptom control
• Respect given by hospice staff to the patient
• Emotional support offered by the hospice staff
• Help provided for pain and symptoms
• Training the family to care for the patient

The goal of these questions is to ensure hospice services are meeting the needs of patients and their families, providing comfort, dignity, and support during a challenging time.

We look at our results monthly so our teams can ensure they are providing compassionate and expert end-of-life care, and adjust course when needed. Several task forces have been formed specifically to improve in areas of opportunity identified by the survey. Survey results are publicly reported at the Medicare Care Compare site for both our Missouri and Kansas care, which is a useful tool for families when choosing a hospice provider for their loved one.

We’re proud to share the fact that our results reflect the amazing care our patients and families receive every day! KCH scores are consistently above the national benchmark in all eight quality measures and a year-over-year comparison (2023 to 2024) shows a 1-4 point improvement for most of the eight measures. These scores are something to celebrate, as they exemplify the great care our staff provide day in and day out and our commitment to always providing quality care as a leading care provider.
