My journey to working on Sunday Night Live began in 2006.

But let’s fast-forward to 2024 – this year! The theme – Lucky to Know You – resonates with me for many reasons:

  • First, who doesn’t feel lucky?
  • I DO feel lucky to know (about) Kansas City Hospice!
  • I also feel lucky to know the dozens of people who are attending Sunday Night Live. While I’m working during the event , I do have a chance to say, ‘hello’ and it’s always terrific to see people you know having fun while supporting a wonderful cause

What is Sunday Night Live…and why do you care?
Familiar with Sunday Night Live? It’s the signature fundraiser for Kansas City Hospice. All funds raised support families right here in our community, served by Kansas City Hospice. You probably get invited to a lot of events around Kansas City, but not a lot of them can say the funds raised stay right here to help your friends and neighbors. That’s exactly what happens at Sunday Night Live! And we’re proud of it!

Held this year on October 6, Sunday Night Live is a whimsical, music and fun-filled three-hour takeover of the living room in the Power & Light District. It’s from 5 – 8 pm. It’s like no other
event in KC:

  • You can expect games (not your average games – these are FUN ones). We’re talking about a larger-than-life Plinko game (yep, just like you see on TV!). There’s a game where you throw a football at bowling pins – Fowling, have you heard of it? You’re gonna love it! And finally, be ready to try your ring-tossing skills for some fine FINE wine and spirits (Blanton’s Bourbon Whiskey anyone? – yes, you could ring toss your way to Blanton’s) during the Lucky Liquor & Wine Toss.
  • You can expect gourmet food. This is where the Power & Light restaurants SHOW OFF and SHOW UP. We have lobster mac and cheese, we have avocado tacos, we have charcuterie, we have churros AND SO MUCH MORE good food. It’s a feast.
  • You can expect the unexpected! We have a special scratcher ticket (hello – we’re lucky to know you, doesn’t that sound like a scratcher ticket to you??) where you can win an amazing prize – for which you must be present to win!
  • Know what you don’t have to be present to win? One of our amazing raffle packages! Whether you’re a travel person, a foodie, you love sports or just love KC – we have a package for you. Buy your tickets online.
  • Guess what else? The silent auction is OPEN and ready for bidding. Be one of the first (and then stick around to swoop in and be one of the LAST to bid too!) — again – you need not attend the event to get yourself one of our incredible silent auction items. You can’t win if you don’t play so bid early and bid often on these items!

Back to my origin story
So back in 2006 my work bestie, Mike, took me to lunch with his favorite business partner Carol. Somehow he knew – he was right! – she and I would hit it off. Carol and I remained fast friends after I left that job, after our friend Mike died (he received outstanding care from Kansas City Hospice) and all through the years. She’s like a bright, warm, sassy, funny sister to me.

Fast forward a few years. Carol is (and has been for years) a devoted Kansas City Hospice volunteer. SO devoted that she helped reimagine their sleepy hotel fundraiser of many years into a fun, never-before-been-done SUNDAY event. She knows I have a soft spot for Kansas City Hospice because a dear friend of mine’s mom died at Kansas City Hospice House™ in 2011 and it was a beautiful experience for their family.

Carol also knows I know a lot about marketing and events.

So she asked me to get involved as a volunteer to help ‘market’ the new event, Sunday Night Live…that was seven or eight years ago….

…and here I am 18 years after meeting Carol – working in tandem with her and so. many. other. volunteers, team members and folks across the community to help make Lucky to Know You/Sunday Night Live 2024 the most memorable event you’ve ever attended.

We can’t wait to see you there! We’re Lucky to Know You and we’ll see you on October 6!

After reading that lovely, inspiring and knowledgeable story, how can I pass up attending this “Fabulous, Fantastic Function”!
I have to go bid now! 😁
    See everyone in October!

Such a great fun story about Sunday night live❤️
I can attest that Jeannie and Carol are superstars in their own right. We have so many fun games and great food for the event. Don’t miss out, be sure to share with your friends that can’t make it to the event. They can still be a part of the fun by purchasing raffle tickets and bidding online for the silent auction Items!! So many great trips and items to win and all for a great cause!!
