August is National Make-A-Will Month. For many busy Kansas City area people, this yearly reminder is the motivation they need to finally sit down and create their last will and testament. And once they do, many find the process isn’t as long or tedious as anticipated.

On the occasion of Make-A-Will Month, Kansas City Hospice (KCH) is highlighting an uncomfortable truth: only roughly 1/3 of adults in the United States have a will or living trust. Even fewer have taken the steps to establish an advanced healthcare directive or a durable power of attorney – essential tools that ensure one’s healthcare wishes are honored and their affairs managed according to their preference in the event they are unable to make their wishes known.
To address this gap, we’re excited to announce a new partnership with FreeWill, a platform that both simplifies the process of creating legally valid wills and also assists in creating an advanced healthcare directive and a durable power of attorney. This service is readily available to you, our patients, families, dedicated team members, and the broader community to utilize. Last year in August alone, more than 40,000 wills and trusts were created through FreeWill!
Our new initiative underscores the mission to provide comprehensive support, paving the path for a better future. Beyond our commitment to providing top quality hospice care, we’re devoted to promoting proactive planning for life’s uncertainties.

This easy-to-navigate platform enables you to painlessly create your will. Crucial planning tools empower you to gain control over your legacy and financial affairs. KCH invites you to seize this opportunity and explore FreeWill’s services available at your disposal.
During Make-A-Will Month, KCH intends to raise awareness of the importance of estate planning and making advance care arrangements. Proactive steps such as creating wills, establishing advanced healthcare directives, and entrusting durable power of attorney help provide peace of mind. Visit KCHospice.org/Legacy to get started today. It’s fast, it’s easy and it’s free!
